Dear Parents and Guardians,

As we embark on a new school year, I want to invite you to explore the resources provided by Alberta Education website to help you better understand what your child will be learning this school year. These resources include detailed curriculum guides, information on French Language Education, and valuable insights into our school’s approach to mental health and well-being.

You can access these resources through theAlberta Education website. I encourage you to take some time to familiarize yourself with these materials, as they will give you a clearer picture of your child’s educational journey this year.

In addition to these resources, I would like to remind you of the importance of maintaining open lines of communication between home and school. If you have any questions or concerns regarding your child’s classroom experience, please reach out to their teacher first. This direct line of communication often provides the quickest and most accurate responses. Should there be any further concerns after speaking with the teacher, I am always here to assist.

Together, we can create a supportive and enriching environment for our students. I look forward to another successful school year!

Have a great weekend! Bonne fin de semaine! Sébastien Picard

Principal, Branton School

Quebec Trip Information Session | Grade Grade 8 Students and Parents

We are excited to invite you to our Quebec Trip Information Session on September 26 at 8:00 PM in the school gym. This session will provide all the details you need about the upcoming trip scheduled for May 2025.

We'll cover important topics such as costs, dates, activities, the selection process, and the behavior and financial contracts. Mr. Jean-Simon Lavoie will be the teacher-in-charge for the Continuous French Immersion trip, while I will be overseeing the Late French Immersion Quebec trip.

We look forward to seeing you there and answering any questions you may have.

Terry Fox Day – Sept. 20

This year, we will be conducting our Terry Fox Run on the morning of Sept. 20. From the beginning of period 2 until nutrition break (9-10:30am), the students will be engaged in a walk/run in the community along the same route as past years. We are looking for PARENT VOLUNTEERS to be stationed at corners/road crossings to help ensure the safety of our students as well as reduce any confusion students may have about where to go. If you can help us out by volunteering, please contact:

Judd Casper - jocasper@cbe.ab.ca

Thank you to those Parents who have already volunteered for the Terry Fox Run to help. We still are in need of 16 more Volunteers. Please contact Judd Casper - jocasper@cbe.ab.ca

In addition to the traditional walk/run, Terry Fox Day will be our first Spirit Day of the year! Students are asked to wear the following colors depending on their grade: 6 – Purple, 7 – Blue, 8 – Red, 9 – Green. In the second half of the day, we will be having our first DANCE of the school year. The Dance will run after the nutrition break until the end of the day (11:15am-12:45pm). Along with the dance, there will be alternate activities available around the school as well.

Absence Reporting

The attendance line is the best way to report absence and ensure that they get recorded in a timely manner. This is checked first thing before emails so emails are not encouraged, especially the general Branton mailbox.

Are you Driving Your Kids to School?

PLEASE take your time, slow down and remember playground zones are all year.

We are asking parents to not park where it's prohibited during drop off and pickup times, and to avoid blocking crosswalks and driveways (Merci!)

Lates

We have experienced a very high number of late students so far this year. We recognize that ‘life happens’, however, we would like to emphasize the importance of being on time.

Procedures for Students Leaving During Class

Many have asked for clarification on the procedures for students coming and going during class time for appointments, etc. We would ask that you plan with your child prior to departing and send them with a note that they can show the teacher of the class they are in, then bring the note to the office and sign out to come and meet you. We appreciate your assistance in helping to minimize interruption to your child’s classroom. Also, often students are outside in PhysEd classes which could delay your connection.

Chinook Learning Services

Chinook Learning Services offers courses specifically designed for parents and caregivers of CBE French Immersion students. For Fall 2024, Chinook Learning Services is once again offering French for Parents – Level 1 classes at Georges P. Vanier School. This eight-week course will help parents of bilingual students learn or refresh their French language skills, build their network of bilingual parents, and support their children’s learning at home.

This course would also be beneficial for any Support Staff who are interested in learning along with parents!
