Planning for Next Year

It is that time where we begin to plan for the next school year. If you are NOT returning to Branton next year for Grade 7, 8 or 9 - please email bcrustad@cbe.ab.ca Thank you for your assistance.

New Stoves

We would like to express our gratitude to the school council for purchasing new induction stoves for the Foods program. These stoves will not only enhance safety in the kitchen, but also enable us to prepare new dishes, such as soups, that were previously not possible without an induction cooktop.

Attention Wrestler Parents/Guardians!

We are looking for a few volunteers who would be willing to take on a supervisory role during the Divisional Tournament at Genesis Centre on January 28. You would still be able to drive yourself there and take your student home after they are finished wrestling. Please let Ms. Lackner (chlackner@cbe.ab.ca) know if you are able to be present for the tournament and can help us out with supervision of the Branton Wrestling Team.

Fashion

Students have done a great job sewing or crocheting their final projects. I am always amazed by how creative students are. The grade 9’s are finishing off the semester with a group challenge to create something that uses only the skills that they have learned this semester. The grade 8’s are ending the semester by learning how to make Indigenous wrap beaded lanyards. Finally, the grade 7’s are learning how to do Metis finger weaving for their final project.

Foods

The grade 8’s and 9’s have been learning about reducing food waste by participating in activities presented by Eco Cooks. A highlight from this week was when they did a blind taste test trying foods that had been preserved using a variety of methods.

Grade 7’s have finished their healthy cookie challenge. Their healthy cookies tasted so good the judges had a lot of trouble picking the winners. This month they will be learning new techniques like cutting in and the muffin method.

All students will be finishing the semester by making a variety of Quebecois recipes. Students in grade 7 will be making crepes and the grade 8’s and 9’s will be making sugar pie.
