Oki, Danit'astada, Âba wathtec, Tânisi, Taanishi, Bonjour, Hello Branton Families,
Dear Branton Families
Honoring Women on International Women's Day – March 8, 2025
This Friday, March 8, we celebrate International Women's Day, a time to recognize and appreciate the incredible contributions of women in our families, our communities, and the world. Women are the foundation of society—nurturing families, shaping the future through education, driving innovation in every field, and strengthening economies through their dedication
and expertise. Their impact is immeasurable, and yet, despite their achievements, women continue to face significant challenges in 2025, including inequality, discrimination, and barriers to success.
As we mark this important day, let’s all take a moment to show our respect and appreciation for the women in our lives—our grandmothers, mothers, sisters, daughters, colleagues, and friends. Their resilience, strength, and unwavering commitment to making the world a better place deserve our recognition and support, not just today but every day. Together, we can build a society that truly values equity, inclusion, and respect for all.
Happy International Women's Day to the incredible women of our school community and beyond!
Celebrating Francophone and Irish Heritage Month
It’s already March, and we are excited to celebrate Francophone and Irish Heritage Month in Canada! On March 10, all our students will take part in our Cabane à sucre (Sugar Shack) experience, and this year, we are pleased to share this special tradition with Capitol Hill School. We would also like to acknowledge the financial support we received from OLEP (Official Languages in Education Program), a federal initiative that promotes French language education outside Quebec.
Why Use A Whole School Approach For Attendance?
A Whole School Approach is widely recognized to promote students’ health, safety and
well-being; research supports using this comprehensive model to address a complex problem like attendance.
- By grade 3, students with chronic absenteeism are less likely to read at grade level
- By grade 6, chronic absenteeism puts student at risk of not completing high school
- By grade 9, regular attendance is a better predictor of graduation rates than test scores
Poverty, trauma and a lack of supportive relationships at the school are some of the most prevalent underlying concerns that present as chronic absenteeism.

Making a Difference: Celebrating Substitute Teachers!
Without substitute teachers, life would have no class! From Mar. 10-14, we’re taking a moment to shine a spotlight on the incredible individuals who step into CBE classrooms and keep the learning going: substitute teachers! They’re the ones who swoop in and ensure everything runs smoothly, and we couldn’t be more grateful.
Substitute teachers play a vital role in our schools, whether it’s stepping in to fill a sick leave, a temporary contract or to allow other teachers to catch up on professional learning. They bring diverse skills, experiences, and perspectives into classrooms, enriching the learning environment for everyone. Whether they fill in for a day, a week, or longer, they make a real difference.
They handle last-minute lesson plans, get to know new faces quickly, and continue to advance learning for students. From managing unexpected situations to connecting with new students, they face unique challenges every day. Their dedication to students is truly inspiring.
So, let’s make this Substitute Teacher Week extra special! Let’s show our subs how much we appreciate their hard work and the incredible diff erence they make in our schools. They’re not just fi lling in; they’re making a lasting impact, and we are so lucky to have them!
Thank you for your ongoing support, and we look forward to a great month ahead!
Best regards
