Oki, Danit'astada, Âba wathtec, Tânisi, Taanishi, Bonjour, Hello Branton Families,
May 16: Non-Instruction Day - No School for students.
Dear Branton Families
I hope this message finds you well.
As we look ahead to the weekend, I want to take a moment to acknowledge and celebrate all the mothers, grandmothers, and mother figures in our Branton community. Mother's Day is a heartfelt reminder of the vital role they play in our lives — offering unconditional love, guidance, and strength every day. Whether through quiet support or bold leadership, mothers help shape who we are, and we are grateful for all they do. We wish all mothers a beautiful, restful, and joy-filled Mother's Day.
A reminder that Friday, May 16 is a non-instructional day—there will be no school for students. On this day, the majority of Branton staff will be participating in a full-day First Aid recertification training here at the school. This important training ensures that we all maintain the knowledge and skills needed to keep our students safe every day.
Next week, 50 of our Grade 8 Early French Immersion students will be travelling to Quebec for one week, under the leadership of M. Lavoie. We wish them a memorable and enriching experience as they explore the culture and history of la belle province!
I would also like to take a moment to thank Ms. Corning, who is leading our new Best Buddy Program at Branton. This weekly initiative brings together over 30 students from Grades 6 to 9 to connect and build friendships with our CSSI and ACCESS students. It’s a beautiful example of inclusion, empathy, and community. Branton is a stronger school because of these meaningful actions we see every day.
This week, Mr. Ormiston completed the Enrichment Course Selection process for all current Grade 6, 7, and 8 students for the 2025–2026 school year. We’ll now begin the task of assigning students to courses over both semesters, doing our best to reflect their preferences. Please note that final schedules will be available in September 2025, once the new school year begins.
As we move through the month of May, we continue to prioritize student safety and well-being. Occasionally, we see students engaging in so-called “funny games” that can quickly escalate into more serious behaviours, such as bullying—both in person and online. Please know that CBE schools do not tolerate bullying, and we work closely with families to address and prevent these behaviours.
A gentle reminder to all parents: I strongly encourage you to check your child’s cell phone regularly—a device you, as parents, provide. In recent days, we’ve seen concerning messages in student group chats that some families might find surprising. It's also best that cell phones not be kept in bedrooms overnight so your child can have a full, restful sleep rather than staying up chatting online.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership in making Branton School a caring and respectful learning environment.
Take care, Sébastien Picard
Principal, Branton School
