Dear Parents and Guardians,
This message is to notify you that in observance of National Indigenous Peoples' Day and the Summer Solstice on Friday, June 20, Branton staff and students will be taking part in a land-based activity intended to honour and draw inspiration from Indigenous Ways of Knowing.
Students will be taken by their homeroom teachers to Western Confederation Park, where they will participate in a nature walk. This walk will give students the opportunity to connect with the natural environment and to reflect on the relationships they have made at school this year.
Following the nature walk, students will take part in a sharing circle, a traditional practice that emphasizes active listening, respect, and community. In the sharing circle, students will have the chance to share their thoughts and reflect on their experiences over the past year.
After the sharing circle, students may return with their classes to Branton School for an end-of-year potluck with their homerooms. The decision to have a potluck rests with homeroom teachers, and will be communicated to students accordingly. Each student is encouraged to bring a dish to share with their classmates, as this will be a great opportunity to celebrate our amazing school community and enjoy a meal together before heading out for summer break!
Please ensure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather and has comfortable footwear for the nature walk. Also kindly ensure that your child’s potluck dish clearly labels any allergens such as gluten, dairy, or nuts.
See below the route students will take from Branton School to West Confederation Park:
We look forward to a meaningful and enriching day and encourage you to reach out if you have any questions or concerns.

Music Notes
Just a reminder that band instruments belonging to the school need to be returned CLEAN on Monday, June 16. They were due to be returned on Friday, June 13, but I still have many outstanding instruments. Brass instruments especially need to be cleaned with a snake and re-greased and oiled to prevent slides getting stuck over the summer. Woodwinds need to insure that mouthpieces are clean and the insides have been swabbed out. This is part of the contract that everyone signed in September. If instruments are not clean, you will be charged the cleaning fee. I do not have the facilities at school to do this myself. Thank you for understanding and helping your child with the responsibility of having an instruments.
Summer Rentals - are available if your child would like to continue practicing over the summer. Forms will be available June 16.
