Principal's Message

Oki/Hello/Bonjour Parents and Guardians

📈 Enrollment & September adjustments: We currently have 748 students registered at Branton School—more than` anticipated in June. As is common in middle schools, we’re reviewing and adjusting our timetable and staffing to ensure every student is in the right place, receives the support they need, and feels safe at school. Thank you for your patience as we finalize these updates.

📚Subject: FLA+ & Math+ placements
Over the summer, registrations increased. We are currently updating our schedule and staff deployment to ensure core, enrichment, and Physical Education classes align with our priorities: strong academics and student safety . As a result, FLA+ and Math are not yet listed on student timetables . Timeline: By the end of September (or sooner) , we will confi rm what we can off er for Semester 1 and Semester 2 in FLA+/Math+. In the meantime, students will receive support in their regular classes; teachers will share practice materials and help times. Thank you for your patience and partnership. For questions, please contact your child’s FLA/Math teacher first; we will loop in our Resource team as needed.

🤝 Parents as Partners

Your partnership with teachers and school leaders is vital. Your advocacy, support, and care make a real difference in your child’s learning journey.

As we embark on a new school year, I want to invite you to explore the resources provided by Alberta Education website to help you better understand what your child will be learning this school year. These resources include detailed curriculum guides, information on French Language Education, and valuable insights into our school’s approach to mental health and well-being.

🌐You can access these resources through the Alberta Education website. I encourage you to take some time to familiarize yourself with these materials, as they will give you a clearer picture of your child’s educational journey this year.

📬In addition to these resources, I would like to remind you of the importance of maintaining open lines of communication between home and school. If you have any questions or concerns regarding your child’s classroom experience, please reach out to their teacher first. This direct line of communication often provides the quickest and most accurate responses. Should there be any further concerns after speaking with the teacher, I am always here to assist.

⚖🏅The Fairness and Safety in Sport Act (the Act) came into effect on Sept. 1, 2025. Under this provincial legislation, all school boards in Alberta—including the CBE—are required to align their practices and policies to comply with the new legal framework.

In response, the CBE has developed and adopted an administrative regulation to meet the requirements of the Act. Our primary goal is to ensure full compliance with the law while continuing to support the well-being, inclusion, and development of all students participating in school sports.

The government of Alberta has additional information about the Fairness and Safety in Sport Act on its website. Questions about the new legislation may be directed to Tourism and Sport at SPAR@gov.ab.ca, or you can contact your member of the legislative assembly.

The CBE remains committed to fostering safe, respectful, and equitable environments for all students in accordance with provincial legislation and our broader educational values.

🌟Together, we can create a supportive and enriching environment for our students. I look forward to another successful school year!

Have a great weekend! Bonne fin de semaine! Sébastien Picard - Principal, Branton School

Terry Fox Day – Sept. 12

This year, we will be conducting our Terry Fox Run on the morning of Sept. 12th. From the beginning of period 2 until nutrition break (9-10:30am), the students will be engaged in a walk/run in the community along the same route as past years. We are looking for PARENT VOLUNTEERS to be stationed at corners/road crossings to help ensure the safety of our students as well as reduce any confusion students may have about where to go. If you can help us out by volunteering, please contact: Judd Casper - jocasper@cbe.ab.ca

First Spirit Day - Sept. 12

In addition to the traditional walk/run, Terry Fox Day will be our first Spirit Day of the year on September 12!  Grade Colour Challenge

Please ask students to sign in at the Office, write their complete name on the clipboard, and fill out a late slip to take to class.

We recognize that 'life happens', however, we would like to emphasize the importance of being on time.

Leaving During Class (Appointments)

  • Plan ahead with your child and send them with a note
  • Show the note to their teacher, go to the Office, and sign out
  • Meet you at the Main Entrance
  • Phys Ed classes are often held outside, which could delay your connection.
