Labour Update for Families

As you may have seen in provincial news this week, teachers have voted to reject the memorandum of agreement at 89.5%, and strike action is slated to begin on October 6. The Calgary Board of Education has already sent information to all families to ensure you receive clear, system-level updates. Please continue to watch for those messages. See Labour Actionpage on the CBE website.

Speaking as a school principal, a teacher, and a father with over 28 years in public education, I know this is our collective focus as educators: the safety, success, and well-being of our students, families, and staff. We care deeply about each of you and the learning community we share.

Sunday, October 5 is World Teachers’ Day, celebrated in more than 170 countries to recognize the dedication and impact of educators. With no school on Monday, October 6 due to job action, I invite families to take a moment this weekend to acknowledge a teacher’s work. We will celebrate our teachers together once school resumes.

During the Strike (starting Monday, October 6)

All ATA members (teachers, assistant principals, and the principal) will not have access to professional email, D2L, or Google Classroom. Students will have access to D2L and Google classroom throughout labour action.

Teachers will not be sending home resources or homework during the strike.

For at-home learning, the Government of Alberta provides “educational resources” for parents and students (LINK).

Thank you/Merci to all parents and guardians who have taken the time to write, meet, or speak with us. Your encouragement and partnership in supporting strong public education mean a great deal to our staff and to me personally.

We hope to see everyone back very soon to continue the important work we began on September 2, 2025. Thank you for your patience and understanding. Take care!

Brown Bagging for Calgary's Kids - Lunches During School Strike or Lockout

If a school strike or lockout occurs, resulting in the closure of all or some of the schools accessing the Brown Bagging for Calgary’s Kids (BB4CK) School Lunch program, we are committed to continuing to provide lunches to kids who need them via a lunch-pickup model at designated sites in Calgary.

As this is an evolving situation, we will be keeping this webpage updated with further details and with the locations at which families will be able to access BB4CK lunches.

Branton Fun Lunch Begins

All lunches for the year have been posted. To order, go to healthyhunger.ca, create an account (or log into an existing), select Branton School, choose your child's class (this is important if you want your child to find their food), order your items, and then pay (if you don't pay the order will not go through!).

Fun lunches are a fundraiser for the school with 20% of the cost going back to the school. There is also a 'donate towards a lunch' option if you would like to contribute to purchasing lunches for students who otherwise could not participate.

Lastly, volunteers are needed to help organize the food and oversee the distribution of lunches. This involves a one hour commitment on the day of the fun lunches. To sign up please click on this link: Volunteer Sign Up

The fun lunch committee is looking to recruit a fun lunch co-coordinator for the 2026-2027 school year so please come volunteer this year, learn the ropes, and see if that could be you. Volunteers require CBE volunteer clearance - contact the office to complete this process.

If you have any questions regarding fun lunches or volunteering, please email brantonfunlunch@gmail.com.

P.s. “Unfortunately we will have to cancel October's fun lunch. If you have already ordered for Subway, please log in and cancel your order. If you do not cancel your order - healthy hunger will issue you a credit to be used for a future lunch. If you have any questions about the process please contact us at brantonfunlunch@gmail.com
