Parent Message
Students in Mme Richey’s early immersion science 7 are currently growing tomato plants as part of the Tomatosphere project, and Mme Crépin’s late immersion students will be next! In partnership with the Canadian Space Agency, we are tracking the successful germination of seeds that have or have not been exposed to the conditions of outer space. Once the seeds are finished sprouting, students will be invited to keep one or more sprouts to care for at home.

Open House
You can see some pictures of our 2024 Open House on our Instagram Account (brantonschoolyyc). Merci to all our volunteers and staff for their support and commitment to Branton School.
Alberta Education Assurance Survey
Each year Alberta Education surveys students, their parents, and all teachers on behalf of schools and school authorities to gather important information on what is working well and where there is room for improvement. The survey asks students in Grades 4, 7 and 10 and their parents about their thoughts, feelings, and experiences in school. This year’s survey is online and is open through March 2024.
Music Notes
I have made arrangements to open the clothing store to order band shirts again. The store will remain open until February 15, 2024. Please ensure that you have ordered the polo shirt (uniform). There is an option for hoodies, but these are not the uniform. There needs to be a minimum of 12 purchased in order for the order to happen or they will be refunded. This should not be an issue, as I have more than 12 students who do not have one. If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know.
Band Workshop/Camps are in the finalizing stages. We will be asking a deposit for $75.00 due by February 29, 2024. The remainder of the cost will be determined after our final fundraiser. More details to come. Dates are as follows:
- Grade 8 & 9 – April 16 & 17, 2024 (overnight)
- Grade 7 – April 25 & 26, 2024 (not overnight)
Festival for all bands is on April 30, times to yet be determined.
Volunteers for all events would be appreciated. If you are interested, please let me know.

Next Year Planning
In planning for enrolment numbers for next year, please let us know if your child is NOT planning to return to Branton (except Gr 9’s going to high school) for the 2024-25 school year. Please email bcrustad@cbe.ab.ca Thank you.
Rock Band on CJAY 92
One of our Grade 8/9 Rock Bands recorded their own track this year, and you can find it on Spotify!
The band Jumbled Noise made the song “Figure It Out” and played it at our Christmas show in December.
They also got to pay a visit to CJAY 92, and an interview with these students will be on the radio on Wednesday, February 7th in the 9:00am block of the CJAY 92 morning show! If you tune in, you can text your request to CJAY (929292) that they play the full song on the show as well, which would be a real treat for them!
