Dear Families,
The Calgary Board of Education strives to ensure that all our schools are safe and caring places for all students and staff. As a public school system, we welcome and celebrate students from diverse backgrounds, perspectives and beliefs. At Branton School, we have honoured and recognized our unique school community throughout the school year with events such as the Orange Shirt Day and Black History month. June is Pride Month Internationally, a time to recognize the pursuit of equality and rights for 2SLGBTQ+ individuals. The CBE reaffirms its commitment to creating safe and caring learning and work environments for 2SLGBTQ+ students and staff. We acknowledge that each family and community have unique experiences with different recognitions and celebrations, and any commemorative activities in our schools may be perceived differently. However, classroom-based activities and lessons that promote diversity and inclusion are not subject to exemptions under the Education Act.
Sincerely,
Sebastien Picard Branton
School Principal

PowerSchool Access for Parents
Effective June 3, PowerSchool marks, comments and statuses will be turned off to the public to enable Teachers to begin working on Report Card information. This feature will be turned back on again on January 30th to enable Parents access to their student’s report cards. Branton School will not be printing hard copy report cards. All student report cards will be available to view or print through your PowerSchool access.
June 10, 2024 is the deadline for students to submit their work to their teachers.
Report Cards Available Online June 27, 2024
It is fast approaching the time of year to report student achievement through a report card available on-line on June 27. You will be able to view the report card through MyCBE. Once logged in, you will see an additional tab titled “Report Card”. Select this tab to view the report card. Should you wish to have a printed report card, please email bcrustad@cbe.ab.ca before June 24 to arrange a time for you to collect a copy from the school during school hours. We also ask that if you are NOT returning to Branton School and you have not already notified us of your intentions for next year, please let the school know ASAP. Students who expect to leave the city prior to distribution of final reports who wish to have a printed copy should be asked to provide the school office with a self-addressed, pre-stamped envelope for the school to use to mail the final report to them.
Appeals Day
June 28 - 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Should any questions or concerns with the final report card arise, students and their families may contact teachers by individual email to schedule a meeting to discuss further. (List of Teacher emails) Please note the Appeals Day is scheduled on June 28 between 8:00 AM and 12:00 PM to discuss any questions that Parents may have about their student’s report card marks and comments. This is not a Parent /Teacher Interview, it is only for issues that may have arisen from final grades or marks.
Library Book Returns
With the end of the school year quickly approaching, we need to make sure that our library books are returned and accounted for. Please take some time to look around the house/classroom/lockers and return any overdue books that belong to the school. The final week for book exchanges will be June 3-7 , with all books needing to be back at school no later than June 11 and fines paid by June 14, 2024.
A huge congratulations to our two Minecraft Design Competition finalists, Zoe Y. and Mattias T. + Rhys R., who have both been invited to the Calgary Public Library in June to receive an award from the mayor for their awesome redesigns of Haultain Park and a new Green Line LRT Station. Mattias and Rhys’ Green Line Station features an expansive building with spaces for local businesses, bike infrastructure, and green energy, among other things. Zoe. Y. is the winner of the Division III bracket for Haultain Park, with a design that incorporates ways to acknowledge the land, encourage pedestrian travel, and provide equitable access options for people with sensory and mobility issues! Their designs are receiving recognition for their thoughtful ways of promoting equity, inclusion, and climate resiliency among other design goals that the CBE set out for them in the challenge. Bravo!
One of our student rock bands is playing at Sleddington, a free outdoors music festival on Saturday, June 8 at 4 PM.
Skill Issue will be performing some covers as well as some of their original songs, one of which will be on Spotify for your listening pleasure soon! It's hosted throughout the afternoon at the Beddington Theatre Arts Centre, 375 Bermuda Dr NW. All the acts are youth groups and the event is put on by the Beddington Heights Community Association.
