June 21: National Indigenous Peoples' Day

Dear Parents and Guardians,

This message is to notify you that in observance of National Indigenous Peoples' Day on Friday, June 21, Branton staff and students will be taking part in a land-based activity intended to honour and draw inspiration from Indigenous Ways of Knowing.

Students will be taken by their homeroom teachers to Western Confederation Park, where they will participate in a nature walk. This walk will give students the opportunity to connect with the natural environment and to reflect on the relationships they have made at school this year.

Following the nature walk, students will take part in a sharing circle, a traditional practice that emphasizes active listening, respect, and community. In the sharing circle, students will have the chance to share their thoughts and reflect on their experiences over the past year.

After the sharing circle, students will return with their classes to Branton School for an end-of-year potluck with their homerooms. Each student is encouraged to bring a dish to share with their classmates, as this will be a great opportunity to celebrate our amazing school community and enjoy a meal together before heading out for summer break!

Please ensure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather and has comfortable footwear for the nature walk. Also kindly ensure that your child’s potluck dish clearly labels any allergens such as gluten, dairy, or nuts.

We look forward to a meaningful and enriching day and encourage you to reach out if you have any questions or concerns.

Report Cards Available Online June 26, 2024

It is fast approaching the time of year to report student achievement through a report card available on-line on June 26. You will be able to view the report card through MyCBE. Once logged in, you will see an additional tab titled “Report Card”. Select this tab to view the report card. Please be sure to save/print this report card and they will disappear next year. Should you wish to have a printed report card, please email bcrustad@cbe.ab.ca before June 24th to arrange a time for you to collect a copy from the school during school hours. We also ask that if you are NOT returning to Branton School and you have not already notified us of your intentions for next year, please let the school know ASAP.

Students who expect to leave the city prior to distribution of final reports who wish to have a printed copy should be asked to provide the school office with a self-addressed, pre-stamped envelope for the school to use to mail the final report to them.

Appeals Day June 28 - 8:00-12:00

Should any questions or concerns with the final report card arise, students and their families may contact teachers by individual email to schedule a meeting to discuss further. (List of Teacher emails)

Please note the Appeals Day is scheduled on June 28 between 8:00 AM and 12:00 PM to discuss any questions that Parents may have about their student’s report card marks and comments. This is not a Parent -Teacher Conference, it is only for issues that may have arisen from final grades or marks.

The program supports youth as they transition/age out of traditional child care models, develop new interests and prepare for junior high. It gives youth a safe place to practice independence, develop healthy habits, and establish a sense of belonging in a centre of community that promotes the values of respect, honesty, caring and responsibility.

Kids who are going into Grade 6 can sign up for their grade 6 membership as of August 1!
