If you have sizing questions, please direct them to our apparel supplier Big Mountain. We do have very few sizers at the school for people to try on. Please see the https://brantonapparel.itemorder.com Thank you.

Sit Spot Activity

On Thursday, September 28, Mme Richey and Mme Crépin’s grade 7 Science classes participated in a Sit Spot activity outdoors at Banff Trail Community Centre. Students were able to take time both in personal reflection connecting with the land and as young scientists using their senses to observe the natural world around them. Leading up to the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, this was one small way for us to honor indigenous ways of knowing through land based education. This activity is a practice of coming to know a place, building a relationship with the place and noticing elements of renewal and change around us. We hope to repeat this activity throughout the year to give students the opportunity to observe the changing of the seasons within our own community.

Motivational Speaker

We have a great motivational speaker coming to Branton on October 17 in the morning. His name is Leo Barbe (https://www.leobarbe.com/ ). He has been at Branton School before, a few years ago and was very well received by our students. He’s got a great story and can customize his presentation for our groups. His presentation is about resilience, respect and making good choices.

Cost for parents: FREE - The school will pay for this special presentation!

In Fashion

We have completed our safety unit and students have figured out how to thread our sewing machines. Students have pinned, cut and some are starting to sew while others are taking their time to embroider their projects before they start constructing them.

In Foods

We have finished our safety unit and we are getting into the kitchens to cook. In grade 7 we are starting off with some simple snacks like sunny honey chex and apple crisp. In grade 8 we started with edible cookie dough and have started our homemade convenience food with sushi or cinnamon sugar donut muffins. In grade 9 we started with pinwheel cookies and cinnamon buns while we found recipes for our French culture section. Just a reminder that students are not allowed to share what they have made in class with anyone outside of their group, but the recipes are up on Google Classroom if you would like them to make you a batch at home.

Child and Youth Well-Being: A Webinar Series for Parents and Guardians

The Calgary Board of Education invites all parents and guardians to join us in an online series focusing on child and youth well-being. These sessions will be hosted in partnership with experts from Alberta Health Services and will explore topics such as vaping, brain development, mental health, and sexual health.

Child and Youth Well-Being:
A Webinar Series for Parents and Guardians

CBE educators believe that parents and guardians can inspire their kids to make healthy lifestyle choices and increase protective factors – in order to do so, they need the right tools and information.

Well-being is a precondition for learning. As our understanding of student well-being continues to evolve, it is important for those that support children and youth to stay up to date on the same information so everyone can support student success.

The intention of the series is to advance student well-being by raising family and caregiver’s understanding of a variety of health-related topics.

Thank you for your time and consideration to join us.

Sincerely,
Sebastien Picard - Principal

A Quick note about Basketball Season

We are excited to kick off the basketball season this upcoming week with all 4 teams starting games. Please note that students are NOT to be attending basketball games at other schools without the supervision of an adult. Please see the Branton Tigers Home Fan Policy below as most schools will have very similar expectations:

Branton’s Visiting Fans Policy:

  • As a CBE school, an important part of our mission is to make sure all individuals who come to Branton school feel safe, respected, and welcome. All guests (adults or students) who are not displaying a reasonable level of behavior or are creating a negative impact on others may be asked to leave the building.
  • Visiting students from other schools that are not team members should be accompanied by an adult, and sit with that adult during the game.
  • Seating priority will be given to the families of those playing in the game. Branton students who are not family members of one of the players may be asked to give up their chairs in order to ensure player families have a place to sit.
  • All guests are asked to only be in the main gym hallway or the gymnasium. Players may be permitted in the downstairs hallway WITH the supervision of their coaches.
  • Players & coaches only on the court at all times.
  • Guests are requested to not dribble basketballs outside of the gymnasium.
  • Guests will also be asked to assist Branton staff with chairs and are asked to leave promptly following the final game of an evening.

All sports teams players please pay fees in MyCBE.
