A Message from Mr. Picard, Principal
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Welcome to the new school year at Branton school! I am very excited to be your principal and to work with you and your children to create a positive and enriching learning environment.
Branton School is a Grade 6-9 French immersion school. We have a diverse and multicultural community of learners who are supported by our dedicated and professional staff. Our school values respect, responsibility, excellence, and innovation.
We have many exciting activities and events planned for this year, such as field trips, clubs, sports, music, and art. We also have a strong focus on academic achievement and social-emotional development. We encourage parents and guardians to be involved in their children’s education and to communicate with the teachers and the school administration regularly.
The community of educators at Branton strive to support each student in their learning journey to the best of their abilities. We want students to feel a sense of excitement and anticipation before each day begins, and to be active and engaged in their own learning throughout the day.
We invite you to visit our school website for more information about our school, such as our mission, vision, policies, calendar, newsletters, and contact details. You can also follow us on Twitter (@BrantonSchool) and Instagram (@brantonschoolyyc) for updates and announcements.
We will have our initial Meet the Admin/Teacher Evening on Wednesday, September 6th from 6-8 PM. We will start the Admin meeting in the gymnasium at 6pm. The next part of our evening will be to meet the teachers by following Day 1 of your child’s schedule (Welcome back to Middle School Moms and Dads :-) ). Please have a copy of your child’s schedule with you on that evening. *The program of this important event is at the end of this Weekly Newsletter.
School Fees will be charged to families starting in October. Online fee payment is the simplest and most convenient way to pay school fees. Parents can use their online account to pay fees or apply for a waiver at: www.cbe.ab.ca/mycbe.
You can find more information on the CBE school fees and waivers page.
Thank you for choosing Branton school for your children’s education. We hope that this will be a wonderful and rewarding year for everyone.

Terry Fox Day – Sept. 15th
This year, we will be conducting our Terry Fox Run on the morning of Sept. 15. From the beginning of period 2 until nutrition break (9-10:30am), the students will be engaged in a walk/run in the community along the same route as past years. We are looking for PARENT VOLUNTEERS to be stationed at corners/road crossings to help ensure the safety of our students as well as reduce any confusion students may have about where to go. If you can help us out by volunteering, please contact Judd Casper - jocasper@cbe.ab.ca
In addition to the traditional walk/run, Terry Fox Day will be our first Spirit Day of the year! Students are asked to wear the following colours depending on their grade: 6 – Red, 7 – Blue, 8 – Purple, 9 – Green. In the second half of the day, we will be having our first DANCE. The Dance will run after our nutrition break until the end of the day (11:15am-12:45pm).
O'Kosi Production
Branton students and their families have a unique opportunity to attend, for free, the full dress rehearsal for the production of O'Kosi (oh-goh-see) at The GRAND
608 1 St SW, Calgary on Wednesday, September 20 from 8:00 to 9:30 PM.
O’Kosi explores the complications colonization has had on Indigenous families for the last 160 years. It also opens up conversations about the healing that needs to take place. It features a Blackfoot cast, pow wow group and a live band, and features celebrated director, Michelle Thrush.
If you are interested in attending the dress rehearsal for O'Kosi on this date please let us know in the link below. (Your child may have to sign into their school google account to request tickets in this form).

Are You Driving your Kids to School?
PLEASE take your time, slow down and remember playground zones are all year.
We are asking parents to not park where it's prohibited during drop off and pickup times, and to avoid blocking crosswalks and driveways (Merci!)
